What we expect

Join a full-day tour to two of Bulgaria's most iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Rila Monastery and Boyana Church.

Departing from Sofia in the morning, this tour will first take you to Rila Monastery, where you’ll explore its stunning architecture, intricate frescoes, and serene surroundings.

Afterward, visit the medieval Boyana Church, famous for its 13th-century frescoes. Throughout the day, enjoy expert commentary and ample time to immerse yourself in the beauty and history of these cultural treasures.

The tour provides a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, with a comfortable return to Sofia at the end of the day.

Minimum of 2 guests required at booking

Guests must be at least 3 years old to participate in this activity

Dress code for entering the Monastery and Church: knees and shoulders must be covered

Signage inside the locations is available in Bulgarian and English

Note that this day trip does not include entrance tickets

Boyana church entrance ticket (10 lev) to be paid in cash at the entrance of the church

Rila Monastery museum and monk room entrance ticket (8 lev) to be paid in cash at the museum entrance

Bring cash with you (in the local currency) – the shops and the restaurants in the area of the monastery accept only cash payments

The expected return to Sofia is between 5.00pm and 5.30 pm

The Boyana church is closed on the 1st of January, on the Sunday of the Orthodox Easter, on the 24th of December, 25th of December and the 31st of December

If a tour is booked on one of these days, the tour will only go to the Rila Monastery

The trip to the monastery was very interesting. Our guide spoke excellent English and was pleasant, professional and well informed. The only disappointment was the terrible smelly ladies toilets which were basic at best!
